A Song from a Dad to His Boys

daddy and boys2I communicate love to my boys by giving them a hug. My husband, Brian, communicates love to our boys by writing them an epic song.

He wrote it back when we only had two little guys- a blondie and a redhead. Now there are four. And the blondie turned brown and the littles grew up.

But over the years, that song has become a favorite in our house and the boys come running from all corners of the house when they hear the intro.

At one of our neighborhood dinners a few nights ago, I caught it on tape.  So…in honor of Father’s Day coming up this weekend, here’s “Me and My Boys.”  The lyrics and then the video are below.

Here’s to all awesome fathers everywhere!

Me and My Boys

It was a long, long night

November 2002

When from out of nowhere came that light blonde hair

What on earth did we do?

Then it happened again

July of 04

I don’t know what I said when I saw that bright red but my jaw hit the floor

These two boys they really got my heart

I don’t love them for what they can do

I love them for who they are

One thing I know for sure and I don’t think I have much choice

You know there’s gonna be a little trouble

Yeah there’s gonna be a little noise

It doesn’t matter where we are

We don’t need no fancy toys

Just as long as we’re together

Me and my boys

They’ve got their daddy’s genes

Chips off the old block

See it in their eyes, see it in their smile, see it in their walk

You know we love to have fun

And wrestle on the floor

Turn on the tickle machine and you’ll see what I mean

They’re comin’ back for more

One thing I know for sure and I don’t think I have much choice

You know there’s gonna be a little trouble

Yeah there’s gonna be a little noise

It doesn’t matter where we are

We don’t need no fancy toys

Just as long as we’re together

Me and my boys

  1. Heidi, I loved this. I didn’t realize Brian is so musically talented! You two are raising fine young Christian men who will influence many others toward a life of service in the name of Jesus. You’ll be in my prayers. And I can tell there’s never a dull moment in your house!!!
